reconfiguring

hummingbird

nest and tea

If you're following, you're probably noticing that my updates are becoming more sparse. I've been dragging ass completing existing orders, shipping orders, and I've been outright ignoring requests for the last couple of weeks. I love doing these drawings, and I think my skills have improved quite a bit in the year and a half or so that I've been doing this, but what it boils down to is that it's not really worth the time it's taking up anymore. 10 dollars, minus a paypal fee, minus a 44 cent stamp, it's really a 9 dollar drawing. Most of you ask for really complicated, convoluted stuff that I'm happy to try for the sake of the exercise but it ends up taking a lot of time. I'm getting paid less than minimum wage to do something that I spent like 60k to get an education in, basically.

So- I don't know. I'm open to ideas at this point, and I'm going to complete the orders that I have in the queue, but I might be 86ing this blog pretty soon here. I work 4 days a week at a bakery on top of being a mom and a wife and a friend. If I'm going to be drawing as much as I have been, I need to be getting paid more than like 4 bucks an hour to do it. SO ~dramatic~~!!

  1. I'm just curious as to what you specialized in in art school?

  2. I think it is amazing how folks tell you how to draw. I love the idea of suggesting a subject and letting you run with it. I wish folks wouldn't screw with a great thing. I love my hen.

  3. Hellz yes playa.

I don't know you, but I doubt you are a playa. I admire your willingness to venture into the world of selling art for ass-cheap. And I commend you for doing it this long. I bet if you changed your blog to $25 drawings. . . . you'd still sell a ton. Good luck art friend.

  4. Charge more! What would be sustainable? If that works, go for it. I will cherish my drawing. :)

  5. Do what you have to do in order to meet your own goals of drawing consistently, getting exposure for your art, and enjoying some extra income. I believe you will still have plenty of customers.

  7. I agree with the rest! Your drawings are fantastic, and you've been increasing your skills, and the intricacy of the drawings. It only makes sense that you increase the cost as well.

I can't believe I haven't made a request yet, I just like looking at all the work you produce for people, and how the style has changed over time. Hopefully you can figure out a way to keep doing this; even tripling your fee would be a steal for us.

  8. Oh I hope you'll continue the blog and the art. I also hope you will raise your prices to reflect how lovely it is. I haven't found the perfect thing I want - but I've been wanting one of your drawings for the longest time.
